Cooperative Marketing a Winner in TPP Grants

23 May 2007

The latest grants made under the Government’s $16 million Tourism Promotion Plan indicate that Tasmanian tourism associations and local councils are recognising the vital importance of cooperative marketing.

Announcing the successful applicants in the second round of the Cooperative Marketing Fund, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment, Paula Wriedt, said a total of $178,174 had been allocated to projects throughout the State.

Funding was allocated to web site developments in the south, east and north-west; cooperative marketing arrangements for the Tamar Valley, Innkeepers and a providore and farm gate project for Peppermint Bay; and a television promotional campaign for the Heritage Highway.

Ms Wriedt said the purpose of grants from the Cooperative Marketing Fund was to provide assistance to projects that were market ready and able to improve visitation in their area and across the State.

“A total of 14 applications were received, eight of which were successful in meeting all the criteria identified by the industry working group.”

“These grants are great news for regional Tasmania, as they will assist in the development of $704,526 worth of cooperative marketing,” said Ms Wriedt.

The second round of grants, together with the $181,000 allocated in the first round, sees all money in the Cooperative Marketing Fund fully allocated.

Ms Wriedt said the Cooperative Marketing Fund was significant in that it gave tourism operators, associations, and allied bodies a real opportunity to leverage their existing budgets by forming partnerships and aligning to the work of the wider regions.
